Très cool, le VMworld à Cannes. Oui, c’est vrai, last month I visited VMworld in Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes. Where once a year film stars are being celebrated, computergeeks now had the power! Virtual power, so to speak. For three days. And just in the Congrès building, not during the night. And we had to wear badges.
Normally it’s not my kind of thing, going to congresses. This one was different, obviously. And I’m not talking about the fact that the congress took place in the south of France, in Cannes, where end Februari it was 18 degrees Celcius already and I did not have to wear a coat in the morning when I walked from the hotel along the boulevard to get some fresh croissants and coffee. What I am obviously talking about is that there were not a lot of managers in fancy suits and I did not have to listen to many boring and just ongoing salestalks. Just some. Instead there were many technical deepdive sessions to get a better understanding of the VMware techniques, and I did some interesting labs. And at night there was the city of Cannes. I have to say that Cannes is quite…. boring. A few hotels, a couple of big boats and that’s it. So I was glad to leave for St. Félicien again thursdaynight, where I was welcomed by friendly folk, where I attended my first French village meeting, where I met some of my French friends again. But above all, le village de mon amour. |
